Nancy Ann ‘Gilliland’ Williamson

August 7, 1939 ~ October 19, 2024

Nancy Ann Gilliland, age 85, died October 19, 2024 in Lindon, Utah of incidents due to her age. She was born at home on August 7, 1939 to a farming family in Tymochtee Township, Wyandot County, Ohio, the first and only daughter of Robert Edgar Gilliland and Margaretta Ellen Ruehle.

She was married to Richard Hans Williamson of Pleasant Grove, Utah on December 27, 1962 in McCutchenville, Ohio and later was sealed to Richard on May 1, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Nancy graduated Valedictorian of her McCutchenville, Ohio high school class in May of 1957. She entered Heidelberg College in September of that year majoring in religious education. In August 1963 she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Nancy had a great love of reading throughout her life and an extensive library of books she read and treasured, especially those that discussed religion.

While on a Junior Year Abroad program with Heidelberg College in Heidelberg, Germany, Nancy met several members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After some discussions, she purchased a copy of “Jesus the Christ” in English written by James E. Talmage. It was the most fascinating religious book she had ever encountered—it described the Jesus Christ she loved and worshipped. She was baptized into the church with the baptismal ordinance performed in the German language by Bryan K. Wahlquist and confirmed a member by Bruno Stroganoff who was the local Branch President.

Nancy quietly served countless individuals. She was a leader in Boy Scouts for many years. She was elected to the School Board of the Alpine School District which set policy for many of the schools in Utah County. She served as the coordinator for the family history library and as the Ward Librarian for many years. She was asked to serve as a Relief Society President in her congregation for a time and she dearly loved the counselors she served with. Their close friendships continued to her death.

Nancy is survived by her husband Richard and her four children and their spouses: Robert and Sandy Williamson of Lindon, Utah; Scott and Nancy Williamson of American Fork, Utah; Brian and Ranell Williamson of Sherwood, Oregon; and Connie and Arik Nelson of Lehi, Utah. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her older brother Cloyce Gilliland and younger brother Neil Gilliland.

Nancy’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 12:00 pm in the Lindon 6th Ward Chapel, located at 56 East 600 North, Lindon, Utah.
