Blaine Thomas Nixon

1937 ~ 2024

Blaine Thomas (Tom) Nixon, age 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024 after a long battle with dementia.

Tom was born April 25, 1937 in Heber, Utah, to Clarence George Nixon and Lora B. Wootton. He was born the seventh of eight children. The family moved to Hunter, Utah where he spent his formative years.  He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1955.  Tom served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission. Upon his return, he joined the Utah National Guard.

Tom was sealed to his sweetheart, Marilyn Culley, on September 14, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved from Hunter to Alpine, Utah in 1974. Together, they raised a beautiful family. Tom was a lifelong entrepreneur and excellent businessman. He ran businesses related to manufactured marble, custom cabinetry, property development and home building. 

Tom had an unwavering testimony and love for the Savior Jesus Christ. He served faithfully in various church callings throughout his life. He served as bishop of the Hunter Ward and the Alpine 6th Ward, on stake high councils, various Young Men’s organizations, at the Mission Training Center and in the Stake Presidency. He was an avid scouter and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He and Marilyn served a church mission in Hong Kong, traveling throughout Asia overseeing humanitarian projects in several countries.

Tom leaves a legacy of devotion to the Lord and the importance of family. Tom was a hard worker, he taught his children by example. He also valued time set aside for family and shared his hobbies with them throughout his life. This included boating, camping, snowmobiling, golfing, traveling, and trips to Lake Powell and Hebgen Lake. He loved BYU football, basketball, the Utah Jazz, and was a season ticket holder most of his adult life. 

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Nixon, and their six children Corilyn Markham, Melissa (Gradon) Knotts, Gordon (Kim) Nixon, Rynn (Tanna) Nixon, Gary (Mickie) Nixon, Shanae (Kahle) Leavitt, one sister Evelyn Orchard, twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lora B. Nixon, in-laws Art and Maggie Culley, siblings: Floyd Nixon, Clyde Nixon, Rea Nixon, Dorthy Free, Bert Nixon and Neil Nixon, sons-in-law Troy Tolbert and Nick Markham, grandchildren Tyler Tolbert and Landon Leavitt.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Alpine 6th Ward Chapel, located at 901 East Village Way, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and also at an additional viewing on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:45 am prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Alpine City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express appreciation for love and support from family, friends and ward members, as well as Suncrest Hospice Care, Highland Glen Care Facility, and Vevee Inoke.
