Larry Eugene Tolman of Alpine, Utah, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 8, 1948, in Provo Utah, to Orson P Tolman and Joey Bernice Duncan Tolman. During his challenges with Corticobasal Degeneration he chose to remain positive and his faith never wavered. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by faith, service, and love for his family.
Larry’s life has been characterized by his love for his Savior Jesus Christ, love for family, and love for his country and fellow men. He grew up in Orem and Highland Utah, and after high school he joined the Army National Guard’s engineering branch, later moving to the linguistic and military intelligence branches where he served for 20 years. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Larry served a mission for two and a half years in the French East Mission. After returning from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and he dedicated 42 years to his career at AT&T and Mountain Bell.
Larry met his sweetheart, Darlynn Allen, while in college, and they were married on June 24, 1971 in the Manti, Utah Temple. He had a deep love for the outdoors, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was a passionate supporter of BYU sports, especially football and basketball, and enjoyed singing and music throughout his life.
Larry served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop of the American Fork 11th Ward and Bishop of the BYU 125th Ward. After retiring from AT&T, he served missions with his wife to Madagascar, the LDS Conference Center SLC, Korea, and the Lindon Bishop’s Storehouse. He and Darlynn were also able to serve as ordinance workers in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples. His family is grateful that he is now able to serve again in heaven. Larry is loved by many and will be greatly missed here.
Larry is survived by his wife, Darlynn; his siblings Laura, Ruth, John, and Sandra; and his 11 children and their spouses; Jaren and April Tolman, Valerie and Norman Fuller, Michael and Kiki Tolman, Natalie and Kenn Mangum, Rachelle and Jon Johnson, Cynthia and Stewart Sintay, Eric and Tara Tolman, Sylvia and Dave Buck, Andrew and Brittany Tolman, Kyler and Ann Tolman, Brennan and Lei Tolman. He also leaves behind 39 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, each of whom carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and joy.
Funeral services for Larry will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:30 am in the Dry Creek Ward Chapel, located at 1125 East Alpine Boulevard, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:15 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services in the Alpine City Cemetery.
