Kale and Myrna McGee Smith, passed away, hand in hand, surrounded by a loving family on November 14, 2024. 

Kale was born November 23, 1933 in American Fork, UT, the son of Oliver Clyde and Florence Jeppson Smith. Myrna was born September 30, 1935 in Draper, UT, the daughter of Ross Solon and Elsie Gifford McGee. 

Kale graduated from American Fork High School in 1952. He attended Utah Technical College with a degree in Blueprint Reading and Construction Building Trades in 1968. Continuing his education in 1970 at LaSalle Extension University with a degree in Accounting I and II. Myrna graduated from American Fork High School in 1953.

Kale was drafted into the United States Army in 1956. He served in the 4th Armored Division as a Radar Operator at the Hanford Nuclear Atomics Works in Washington State until he was honorably discharged in 1958. 

Kale and Myrna were high school sweethearts. They were married on October 12, 1953 in American Fork and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with three daughters, Judie, Marcia, and Carol and were able to have their niece Lisa live with them for 6 years. 

Kale started out owning his own interstate trucking company, but the time apart from his sweetheart was too difficult so he sold the company. After working for local road construction companies, he then worked as a foreman and superintendent for Gibbons and Reed Construction until he retired in 1993. Myrna worked in banking; managing new accounts, as a bank teller, and bookkeeping. She retired from Bank of American Fork in 2000. 

They loved the outdoors and being in nature. Kale was an avid hunter, fisherman and skier. Wherever Kale went, Myrna went too.

Kale and Myrna were both active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They happily served in many church callings; their favorite being called together to serve as Pastoral Volunteers at the American Fork Hospital. 

Kale and Myrna are survived by their three daughters and their spouses; Judie (Terry) Hawkins, Marcia (Bart) Olsen, and Carol (Curtis) Graff, ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. Kale and Myrna were inseparable for 71 years.

Kale and Myrna are preceded in death by their parents and siblings as well as their grandson, Max Collin Graff and great grandson Aiden Gauger. 

Joint funeral services for Kale & Myrna will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:00 am in the American Fork, 34th Ward Chapel, located at 400 North 1100 East, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services in the American Fork City Cemetery.
