Gwendolyn Forsyth Squires
1935 ~ 2024
Gwendolyn Forsyth Squires, born December 25, 1935, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on December 20, 2024. Gwen was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who lived a life full of faith, service, and love.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Lile Squires; her parents, Harry and Bernice Forsyth; her brothers, Don and Doug Forsyth; and her sister, Geri Smith. She was sealed to Ray in the Salt Lake Temple on September 12, 1958, and together they built a beautiful family and legacy. Gwen leaves behind her ten children: Cindi Ingersoll (Jeff), Sandee Carson (Larry), Suzanne Wright (Frank), Scott, Sabrina Lindsley (Steve), Stacey Jones (Garrett), Steven Squires (Brittnee), Stuart Squires (Danielle), Seth Squires (Jenny), and Sara Chase (Dallin); 60 grandchildren (notably, her 60th grandchild was born on her 60th wedding anniversary); and 66 great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory.
Gwen’s dedication to her faith and family was evident in every aspect of her life. She served in numerous callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as stake Young Women’s president. However, her most cherished roles were as a mother and grandmother, where her influence and love were boundless.
A lifelong learner, Gwen earned her undergraduate degree in social work from Brigham Young University. After having her ten children, she returned to BYU to pursue her master’s degree in social work, graduating in 1988. She became the first social worker at American Fork Hospital, where she forged lifelong friendships and positively impacted the lives of thousands. Gwen’s compassion extended beyond her professional life—she was a devoted foster parent, providing a loving home to countless individuals over the years.
In 2005, Gwen and Ray were called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Although their 18-month service was shortened due to Ray’s brain cancer diagnosis, Gwen’s commitment to the Lord continued. From 2012-2013, she completed their mission service to San Jose, California, further exemplifying her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
Gwen’s life was a testament to her incredible strength, generosity, and enduring faith. Her example of service, love, and devotion will remain an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community.
