Curtis Dwayne Fillmore

1941 ~ 2025

Curtis Dwayne Fillmore was born on September 24, 1941, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Curtis Fillmore and Maretta Swenson Fillmore. He passed away on January 5th, 2025, in Alpine, Utah at 83.

He was the oldest of seven children and had a close and strong relationship with both of his parents. Growing up, he was energetic and outgoing, making everyone around him laugh and smile. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1959. After graduating he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served for two and a half years in Sweden. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree both from BYU.

Curtis met Phyllis Roach in second grade and while they remained friends growing up, they did not start dating until after high school. Phyllis “Dear Johned” Curtis while on his mission, but after writing an 11-page letter in response, they eventually got back together. They were married on December 19, 1963, in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple.

Curtis worked as a seminary teacher for three years in Salt Lake City. He then was hired as an agent for DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) where Curtis and Phyllis spent 13 years in New York. A job transfer sent them back to Utah in 1983 where they established their home in Alpine. In 1990, the family moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, as an overseas work assignment, for two years, where they had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. They returned to their same home in Alpine where he finished his service in DEA after a total of 26 years. He then taught Criminal Justice at UVU where he twice received the Teacher of the Year award. They lived the rest of their lives together in Alpine, Utah, enjoying time and sharing memories with family and friends.

Curtis and Phyllis have three daughters and two sons. They have 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Erica Jensen (Clayton) Hurst, Becca Glover, Elizabeth Jensen (deceased), Bailey Fillmore (Brian) Christensen, Amanda Jensen (deceased), Daxton (Katherine) Glover, Samantha Fillmore (Aj) Peterson, Natalie Jensen, Mallory Jensen, Claire Fillmore, Sydnee Fillmore, Brooklyn Fillmore, Easton Fillmore, Jane Fillmore, Hallie Fillmore, Sabrina Fillmore, and Addison Rose; Jocelyn Marie Hurst, Maverick Peterson, Willow Peterson, Isaac Christensen, and Killian Glover.

Curtis was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Roach Fillmore; his father, Curtis Fillmore, and mother, Maretta Swenson; brothers, George A. (Linda) Fillmore; David S. (Myrna) Fillmore; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Amanda Jensen. He is survived by his five children; daughter Kimberly (Craig) Jensen of Highland, Utah; daughter Kristen Fillmore of Alpine, Utah; son Shane Curtis (Chy Ayn) Fillmore of Highland, Utah; daughter Catherine (Bryan) Rose of Alpine, Utah; son Steven Rex (Mindy) Fillmore of Cedar Hills, Utah; and his 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ann (Ralph) Ward; brother, Paul R. (Alison) Fillmore; brother, Blake L. (Debra) Fillmore; and sister, Kathy (Alan) Larsen.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Village Way Chapel, 901 Village Way, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call on Friday evening, January 10, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., at the Village Way Chapel, prior to the funeral service. The interment will be at the Spanish Fork City, Utah Cemetery.
