Adrienne Marie Peterson Gifford
Addy, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at her home in Alpine, Utah where they had resided since 1998.
Adrienne was born June 13, 1929 in Richfield, Utah to Wilford Oscar and Helen Mary Leu Peterson.
She was the eldest of 5 daughters: Adrienne, Elaine, Angela, Avon and Joy. The “Peterson Girls” began school in Weiser, Idaho where their father worked in the Forest Service Office as an accountant. They moved to Nyssa, Oregon where the girls graduated from Nyssa High School.
While filling church assignments, Adrienne played piano and organ from the tip of South Africa to the Northern tip of Alaska. She found great joy in serving as an organist in the Mount Timpanogos Temple.
Before marriage, Adrienne served in the Central Atlantic States Mission and then returned to BYU. While standing in line at the BYU bookstore, she silently wondered, “Will that Gifford fellow be somewhere on this campus?” To her amazement she found him, W. LaVon Gifford, standing behind her. They married in the Idaho Falls Temple June 2, 1952. Seven children were born to them. They lived for 40 years in Page, Arizona.
Von and Addy served missions in Bristol England, Johannesburg South Africa followed by the Alaska Anchorage Mission. She realized a lifelong dream of visiting Arsta Lake in Sweden where her grandmother was baptized.
Addy is survived by her sisters: Elaine (Frank Anderson) and Joy Christensen, 8 children: Gregory LaVon (Brenda), Patrice Marie (Greg Young), Jeffrey Scott (Alice), Julie Adrienne (Brad Dunn), Jennifer Ann (Steve Dame), Matthew Wilford, Kristen Mary (Chris Powell) Samuel Ammon, her 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Adrienne was preceded in death by her parents Wilford and Helen, her husband Warner LaVon Gifford and sisters Angela Waite and Avon Anderson.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East. American Fork, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the Village Way Chapel, 901 East Village Way, Alpine, Utah on Saturday November 20, 2021 at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held prior from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will follow immediately at the Alpine City Cemetery in Alpine, Utah.
