Elaine Miriam Peterson Anderson

1930 – 2022

Elaine, age 91, passed away peacefully early in the morning of June 1, 2022, at her home in Alpine, Utah where she has resided since 1998.

Elaine was born August 3, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Wilford Oscar and Helen Mary Leu Peterson. She was one of 5 children: Adrienne, Elaine, Angela, Avon and Joy. The “Peterson Girls” began school in Weiser, Idaho where their father worked in the Forest Service Office as an accountant. They moved to Nyssa, Oregon where the girls graduated from Nyssa High School. While in Nyssa, Elaine met her high school sweetheart, Frank Anderson. 

After high school, Elaine worked as a telephone operator and then attended Brigham Young University.  After Frank completed his mission, they soon reunited and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 14, 1952.  Six children were born to them. They lived in Corvallis, Oregon, for 8 years while Frank completed his graduate studies, and then they were recruited to San Jose State University (California), where they lived for 36 years.

Elaine and Frank served missions in the Alaska Anchorage Mission (Elaine served as secretary to the Mission President), the Provo MTC, and the Family History Department over digitalization. Elaine loved to travel.  She and Frank visited countries in Asia, Europe, Central America, Africa, and many places in between.  Everywhere they went they made friends.

Elaine is survived by her sister: Joy Christensen, 5 children: Debra, Brad (Ida), Dave (Shannon), Chris (Dedra), Franklin (Angie), her 33 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.  Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Wilford and Helen, her son Steven Frank, and sisters Adrienne Gifford, Angela Waite and Avon Anderson.

Funeral service for Elaine will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Alpine Stake Center Chapel located at 98 East Canyon Crest Road, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah. And also, at an additional viewing on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow immediately at the American Fork City Cemetery in American Fork, Utah.
