Hume LaRell Sparks

1928 – 2022

Hume LaRell Sparks was born to Benjamin Hume and Gladys Hansen Sparks on January 13, 1928 in Ephraim Utah. He died on June 3, 2022 in Pleasant Grove Utah.

He was raised in Ephraim where he attended Ephraim High School and graduated from Snow Collage with an Associates of Science degree. After graduating, he was drafted into the army during the Korean War and was sent to Germany and served there for 18 months. He grew to love the country and the people and took advantage of opportunities to travel Europe during his time off. He often shared his fond memories of his travels with his loved ones.

When he returned home from Germany, he began a 33-year career at Hill Airforce Base. In the early years of working there he met his beloved wife, Lucy Cherril Tucker, they got married in the Manti Temple on 24th of June 1955. They had 4 boys together that always kept them entertained and on their toes. He worked hard to provide for his family of rambunctious boys and afford his zeal for nice cars (which he took great pride in making sure they were well maintained). He loved camping with his family and traveling with his wife, seeing many wonderful places. He retired from Hill Air Force Base and worked an additional 16 years at ZCMI before he officially retired so he and his wife could do their favorite thing and go on as many cruises as they could together. He loved to play with his grandchildren and enjoyed having them near him and always had a chocolate treat to share.

LaRell was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many positions in the 33rd and North 33rd wards, his favorite calling was at the MTC where he would ask where everyone was going and loved to see how happy they were. He was a great man and will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Dean Sparks and 4 baby brothers. He is survived by his children, Michael (Jan), Donald (Kerstin), and Terry (Nancy) Sparks and his 9 handsome grandsons, 2 beautiful granddaughters, and 23 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Gay (John) Bishoff.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Grove 8th Ward Chapel, located at 1136 West 700 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may call Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services also at the church. Interment will be held at Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, 3115 East Bangle Boulevard, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
