Melvin Alma Clement

1940 – 2022

Melvin Alma Clement passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old.

Mel was born March 27, 1940, in Idaho Falls. He grew up on a farm in Lewisville with three younger siblings, Kathryn, George, and Sheri. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and lived true to the gospel principles his whole life.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and lived true to the gospel principles his whole life.

Mel graduated from Brigham Young University and worked in commercial real estate development for over forty years with the Woodbury Corporation. While at BYU, he met and married Cinda Callister in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 29, 1965.

Mel and Cinda made their home in Alpine, Utah, and have lived there for over fifty years. Of Alpine, Mel often said it was his own “slice of heaven”. He served on the Alpine City planning commission and city council for several terms and did all he could to help the city he loved.

He enjoyed hiking, backpacking, cycling, and downhill and cross-country skiing in the surrounding mountains. His best days were those spent outside. Growing up in Idaho and working on the family farm helped Mel decide he would never be a farmer. Yet, he could often be seen in the garden weeding or working in the yard while taking business calls.

He is survived by his wife, Cinda Clement, and their six children–Bonnie Call (Wayne), Craig Clement (Jaime), Jason Clement (Wendy), Johanna Gneiting (Matt), Sara DeVries (Steve), and Jen Tolman (Brandon). He is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

His family loves him dearly. We will miss the way he made each of us feel special and “just perfect”, as he would say. We will miss walking with him, one on one conversations, and feeling his unconditional love.

Funeral services for Mel will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Canyon Crest Ward Chapel, located at 285 North Matterhorn Drive, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services in the Alpine City Cemetery.
