Chantel Quyên Miner

1997 – 2022

Chantel Quyên Miner was born on March 2, 1997, in Sandy, Utah, and passed away on September 27, 2022 at the age of 25 from the effects of long-term, often debilitating depression.   Chantel loved life and fought valiantly to preserve her clarity of thought, the personal relationships she treasured, and the dignity of life.  She will be missed by her family and friends for her many strengths and talents: her love of music and the arts; her enthusiasm to learn; her kind heart and desire to serve those in need; her infectious, beautiful smile despite her internal suffering; and her ability to love unconditionally.

Chantel is survived by her loving mother, Nam Huong Miner; her devoted father, Tom Minh Miner; her fun, attentive brother, Alexander Huy Miner; the family cat, Casper and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Chantel was a world traveler, she moved to Singapore with her family when she was 5 months old and was immersed in Asian life for over 3 years. After returning to Utah, Chantel attended elementary school in Riverton before moving to Alpine, where she continued her schooling at Westfield Elementary, Timberline Middle School and Lone Peak High School. She completed an Associate Degree at Salt Lake City Community College and was pursuing a degree in biology at Utah Valley University. Chantel participated in 2 overseas educational exchange programs in China and Taiwan where she taught high school English, forming long lasting friendships with her Asian students.  Chantel’s US passport contained entry stamps from Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand (where she crossed the equator at the age of 3).

Chantel loved music in all forms. She studied violin performance with Lois Stout for over 5 years and was a member of the Lone Peak Orchestra. Chantel was also an accomplished pianist, in addition to playing guitar and ukulele. She loved to sing and was gifted with a beautiful and penetrating voice.

Chantel enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours hiking mountain trails in Utah. She learned rock climbing from her brother Alex and it became a favorite activity, along with roller skating, which she loved.

Chantel was loved by and touched the lives of many people – she was a kind and caring daughter, sister, friend and will be greatly missed.
