Thomas Alvin Rhoton
1960 – 2023
Thomas Alvin Rhoton, 62, of Alpine, Utah, passed away on February 14, 2023.
He was born in Phoenix, AZ, and during his childhood, he chased adventure, a chase that would continue throughout his life. He spent his childhood outdoors camping or riding his dirtbike in the desert. He had a knack for business and entrepreneurship early on and would regularly sell lemonade and deliver newspapers to fund his hobbies.
He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Little Rock, Arkansas. Afterward, he embarked on the biggest adventure of his life. While at BYU, he met the love of his life, Robyn Peterson. They had an outdoor recreation class together, and she was drawn to him because of his shoes. They made him look like an “adventure man.”
They got married on July 10, 1986, and began the adventure of starting a family. They moved around early in their marriage before settling in Alpine in 1996, where they’ve been ever since. They have five children who adore their dad and will miss him dearly. He was always the first person they called when they needed advice or something fixed. They will now have to learn how to fix their own cars, houses, sprinklers, bikes, computers, and everything else he fixed for them.
He had a lifelong passion for learning and valued education. In addition to his Information Management degree from BYU, he earned an MBA from the University of Utah in 2013 receiving top marks.
Tom loved his family and his life fiercely. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson and started an annual bike ride called Hole Hog with his close friends, which he looked forward to every year.
He was the lead guitarist of the band Exit Strategy for many years and loved bringing joy to others through his passion for music. He also loved fountain pens, knives, flashlights, his hot tub, sailboat, and his dog, Olive.
He was preceded in death by Herman “Bud” Rhoton and is survived by his mother, Clydene (Ernie) Rhoton Butters, sisters Rozanna (Bob) Powell and Cindy (Alan) Erickson, wife Robyn Rhoton, and children Caden (Erin) Rhoton, Casey (Corey) Dong, Alexandria (David) Lewis, Anna Bliss (Bracken) Mecham, Meilan Rhoton and nine (soon to be ten) grandchildren.
All those that knew and loved him will continue his legacy of love and adventure.
