Richard Stanton Spurrier
Richard Stanton Spurrier
1956 – 2023
On Monday, February 27th, 2023, our son, husband, grandpa, brother, and uncle left us behind when he was unexpectedly taken by a sudden heart attack.
Rick was such a special child of God as he embodied the principles of loving, forgiving, kindness, and gentleness throughout his entire 66 years. He was always a giver, not a taker, as he shared his life and talents with others time after time.
A skilled fisherman, rod builder, and master of fly tying, he was happiest when he could help someone learn the craft.
Always smiling, even in the most trying times in his life, he kept his unique sense of humor and lifted everyone’s spirits by his wonderful positive nature. He also loved animals and spent hours training and walking the many dogs he owned throughout his life. He will be especially missed by Boo, his hunting buddy.
Rick was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 21, 1956, to Howard Stanton Spurrier and Carolyn Ann Wallace while Stan was attending The Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Later, Rick lived in San Francisco, CA; Browning, MT; Boston, MA; and finally, home to Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated from Skyline High School, where he played basketball—and loved it—then graduated from the University of Utah, when he began his lifelong career in the pharmaceutical industry. He had just recently retired.
Rick served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Nevada and learned quickly to love the people there and continued his service to others all of his life. Rick would often joke about death and say, “Oh, just put me in a pine box and float me down the Snake River.” We did choose a beautiful pine casket, not quite a “box,” but hopefully it is okay with him; it may even give him a little laugh on his journey to meet his mom.
Rick leaves behind his wonderful wife, Lou Ann, his three children Rich, Anne, and Rob (Laura), and five grandchildren: Halle, Kam, Liam, Lily and Lincoln. He also leaves his dad, Stan and his brothers and sister Steve (Lori), Scott (Lisa), and Chrissy. Rick’s mom, Ann, passed away in 2004.
There will be a viewing at Rick and Lou Ann’s ward, located at 10455 Ironwood Dr., Cedar Hills, UT 84062 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Monday, March 6th, after which Rick will be taken to his final resting place at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery located at 4900 S. Memory Lane, Holladay, UT 84117 at 11:30 AM, where the family will hold a grave side service to say, “See you soon!”
Our memories of your good nature, your giving heart, and your humor and love will help us all to smile during our heartache when we think of you, good buddy. May God continue to bless and keep you. Happy traveling! We love you!
