Dorothy Rose Sparks Robins

January 23, 1935 – March 1, 2023

Dorothy Rose Sparks Robins passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 1, 2023 in Highland, Utah.  She was dedicated, funny, determined, stalwart in her faith and love of God, family and friends.  She was a talented pianist and organist, loved to read, knit, do crossword puzzles and munch on anything chocolate.  Dorothy was born, unexpectedly, on January 23, 1935 at her aunt’s house in Overton, Nevada, while her parents Don and Chlotelle Sparks were there visiting.

Dorothy spent most of her growing up years in Ogden before moving to Bountiful.  It was on one of her first Sundays there that she caught the eye of a cute 16-year old boy by the name of Sune Robins. He took her for a ride in his car and the rest, as they say, is history. They’ve been together ever since. They went to Davis High School in Kaysville and were married on August 29,1953 soon after Dorothy graduated.  After their marriage, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Salt Lake City while Sune finished his engineering degree at the University of Utah. He had joined the Air Force to help with schooling, so after graduation, the Air Force moved them to Colorado, Nebraska and then several places in California before they ended up settling in Palos Verdes for 44 years. Dorothy was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including president of the Primary, Relief Society and Young Women.  After retirement, she and Sune served a mission at the Family History Center at the Los Angeles Temple and enjoyed several years of helping people search their genealogy.  They had many good friends who they traveled with and enjoyed many a fun evening with. They have lived the last 18 years in Utah and found more friends to travel and enjoy time with.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Sune, and children Debra, Marc (Karen), Steven, Brian (Pattie), Reed (Celeste), Glen (Laurie), and Sandi (Dan), and 21 grandchildren and 32.5 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, and only sister Donna. We will miss her, but have been missing the real Dorothy for a couple years as she walked down the tunnel of dementia, strokes, and congestive heart failure. We are grateful for the care she and Sune have received at Highland Glen and especially through their Hospice Care providers Malene, Michelle, and Annette.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Highland 15th Ward Chapel, located at 5212 West Country Club Drive, Highland, Utah.  Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Highland 15th Ward Chapel and again on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow services at the Highland City Cemetery.
