Steven E Niederhauser
1942 – 2023
Steven E Niederhauser, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather peacefully and comfortably transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
Steve was born on July 22, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ether Niederhauser and Florence Christenson Niederhauser. Growing up on the East side of Salt Lake City with his brother Don and sister Gayle, Steve was an active soul who loved cars and had a knack for finding trouble from time to time. Following high school Steve joined the Marine Corps Reserve near San Diego, California. Towards the end of his Marine Corps service, he met and fell in love with Carolyn (Kelli) Lambert and the two were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 11, 1963. They were the proud parents of four boys: Michael, Jeff, Scott, and David. Though Steve and Kelli’s marriage ended in divorce after all four boys had grown, they never allowed their family to feel like a divided family, for which all of their boys and grandchildren will forever be blessed.
Steve’s time in the Marine Corps left a lifelong impression on him and he’d be a proud Marine and military enthusiast for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed military novels, movies, and was a particularly fond learner of World War II history. Steve was an avid outdoorsman. He loved the mountains here in Utah and was particularly fond of the Mirror Lake area in the Uinta Mountains. When his family was young, they enjoyed many trips to Southern Utah and they all learned to camp at an early age. Steve was also a long time Scout Master who ran his scout troops with the toughness and efficiency of a former Marine. His scout troops were well known for winning just about every award possible and were always one of the top performing troops at summer camps, and larger scout gatherings. Steve loved those times and loved the boys that he mentored during all those years. During his retirement years his service as a temple ordinance worker at the Jordan River Utah Temple and his time spent with family and grandchildren were the most meaningful things to him.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Ether, his mother, Florence, and his brother, Don. Steve is survived by his ex-wife Kelli, his sons Mike (Mindy), Jeff (Heather), Scott (Laura), and Dave (Michelle), as well as his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Graveside services for Steve will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery at 10:00 am on Friday, March 10, 2023. Following those brief services there will be a memorial service at 12:00 pm at the Hidden Creek Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 586 East 8400 South, Sandy, Utah, 84070.
Dad, we love you and miss you. We know someday when we cross through that same gateway to the other side, we’ll find you driving towards us with your high beams and blinker accidentally left on to welcome us home.
