Linda Fern Thomas
Linda Fern Thomas
1940 – 2023
Our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Linda Fern Thomas, returned to her heavenly home and the loving arms of her parents and son on June 26, 2023. Linda was born to Howard and Janine Thomas in Orem, Utah on August 26, 1940. She grew up in Provo and spent her summers picking strawberries and raspberries to earn money to buy a Milk-Nickel ice cream or go to a movie. Mother was not one to be the center of attention, but was always quick to offer help, love, and service behind the scenes. Linda cherished family reunions, and the fun times she spent with her siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Linda graduated from Provo high school and Stevens-Heiniger Business College. She married young and immediately started her family. Linda skillfully managed her home and lovingly raised her children. She exemplified her exalted role of a mother. She was an excellent gardener, cook, seamstress, and “handyman” – she could fix anything! She met every challenge in life with grace and determination. Linda retired from the Utah State Prison when she was 73 years old. Linda found her joy in spending time with her family and in her garden. Linda was always very giving and tried to ensure everyone was cared for. We have fond memories of Mom holding grandbabies on her hip and feeding them potatoes and gravy.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Janine Thomas, her brother, Gary Thomas, and her son, Shawn Carter.
She is survived by her siblings, Jeanette Birrell; Steven (Lynne) Thomas; Tim (Mary) Thomas; and Cathy (Clay) Jensen, her children, and grandchildren: daughter, Chris Carter (Jenni MacArthur); daughter Kim (Steve) Muir (Heather (Edward) Zakrzewski, Jessica (Stephanie Gurske) Muir, Kaden (Cynthia) Muir); son, Greg (Jan) Carter (Tiffany (Seth) McGhie, Zach (Latosha) Carter, Dallin (Corbin Wood) Carter, Raquel (Chris Hamner) Carter; son Shawn’s children (Shantel Carter, Lacey Carter, Kylie Carter); daughter, Karrie (Steve) Green (Andy (Katie) Green, C.J. (Gemma) Green, Sydney Green, Danielle Green, Rhyan Green, Bailey (Aaron) Hanks) and many beautiful great-grandchildren she adored.
The family will conduct a private service per Mom’s request. She would like others to honor her memory by sharing remembrances, love, and laughter.
Mom, you were a perfect example of kindness, charity, hard work, and Christlike love.
