DeAnn Nielsen

1938 – 2023

Deann Nielsen 84, died Friday, July 21, 2023. She was born in Provo, Utah, October 13, 1938 to Joy Woodruff Nielsen and Bertha Olsen Nielsen, the second of two daughters. Three boys were later added to the family.

She attended Provo public schools, graduating from Provo High School in 1956. She then entered BYU on a “Homemaker of The Year Scholarship Award” presented by Betty Crocker, majoring in education.

In 1958 she started working for Geneva Steel and later moved to Santa Clara California where she remained for the next 15 years working for Ford Motor company. She then returned to Utah where she worked until retirement from Intermountain Healthcare as a Telecommunications Director. She enjoyed being a concierge at Marriott Hotels in Provo and Salt Lake.

DeAnn enjoyed sports including BYU sports, but her greatest love was tennis, which she played as long as her legs allowed.  She also loved theater and music, volunteering at many local theaters and concert halls.

DeAnn fulfilled a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Provo MTC and volunteered at the Church Distribution Center. She traveled extensively throughout the USA and abroad.

Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Hildred Anderson (“Bud” Louis Anderson). She is survived by her brothers, N Brent Nielsen (Pam), Albert W Nielsen (Charla) and Gregory J Nielsen (Linda), 13 nephews and nieces and 29 great nephews and nieces. All of them she knew and cherished.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Warenski Funeral Home Chapel, located at 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends may attend a gathering from 10:00-10:45 am prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Provo City Cemetery.
