Kathy Metcalf Stevens
Kathy Metcalf Stevens
1952 – 2023
On July 31, 2023, our dear Kathy Metcalf Stevens passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones after a long and bravely fought battle with cancer. And though we are relieved that her suffering is at an end, we will always feel that our time with her was too short.
To know Kathy was to be loved by her. There were no acquaintances in her life, only friends, and she spent her 71 years on earth giving her all to anyone who crossed her path. But her most devoted care and attention always went to her family.
Together with her husband Dee, Kathy conquered the blending of two families, loving and guiding her children through every kind of thick and thin. And though motherhood included difficulty, she was proud to have raised eight boys into men devoted to compassion, hard work, and respect for womanhood. And it was her greatest joy that her years of raising honorable sons led to the miracle of adding several incredible daughters-in-law and many precious grandchildren to her family, all of whom she loved with her entire heart.
Kathy wanted to be a grandmother for as long as she could remember, and as her children began to have their own children, she didn’t just assume the title; she defined it. Time spent with her grandchildren was truly her happiest place, and they loved going to her house to have a heart-to-heart over a batch of roll-up pancakes or some apples sprinkled with jello powder. And her chocolate cake became their most coveted birthday gift.
Kathy’s heart was endlessly drawn to service. She had a sixth sense for knowing when someone was in need and lived by the mantra that instead of asking how she could help, it was always better to show up and do. She planted endless seeds of charity and was known for dropping everything to run to someone’s aid without a moment’s hesitancy.
At the center of Kathy’s divine selflessness was a firm and steady connection to her Father in Heaven and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her embodiment of boundless love was grounded in her hope to be more like them, and with this goal as the focus of her life, it became second nature for Kathy to view other people with Christlike compassion and love.
In the final months of her life, Kathy faced the pain and fear accompanying her inoperable, incurable brain tumor with the grit of a Maasai Warrior and the patience and countenance of a heavenly messenger. She looked forward to spending every sacred moment left on earth with beloved friends and family, where those who came to comfort her, in turn, left comforted.
When her final mortal moment arrived, we know that Kathy was welcomed joyfully in heaven by her parents, Jim and Verna, her granddaughter Elora, her stepdaughter Keri Lynn, and her sons Ben and Jared.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Dee Merlin Stevens; her children, Travis & Krista Isaacson, Allyson Isaacson, Michael & Jamie Stevens, David Stevens, Daniel & Jolyn Stevens, Crystal Isaacson, Adam & Nicole Stevens, Mckay & Mary Stevens; grandchildren, Caleb & A’Bri, Shaustia & Cole, Walker, Noah, Hannah, Jessica & Jennings, Corinn, Lewis, Darren, Hailey, Brynn, Carter, Oliver, Gianna, Dylan, Shaylyn, Lucas, Haley, Skyler, Aiden, Tyler, Adyson, Weston, Duncan, Shepherd, and Charlie; and great-grandson, Lane.
She also leaves behind a tiny dog named Buddy, for whom she acted as emotional support human.
A light like Kathy’s cannot be extinguished. Our memory of her and the legacy of her example of leaning into Jesus will grow in brilliance and spread through generations until it is beyond comprehension. And when we see her again, our embraces will be filled with immeasurable gratitude for who she has helped us become.
Funeral services for Kathy will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Sharon Park 3rd Ward Chapel, located at 310 North 100 East, Orem, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Sharon Parke 3rd Ward Chapel and also at an additional viewing on Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens in Orem, Utah.
Kathy always preferred to leave live flowers in the ground, and so, in lieu of flower arrangements, the family asks that you consider planting something colorful and vibrant in your yard in her honor.
