Billie Louise Grigg Tuttle
1941 ~ 2023
Billie Louise Grigg Tuttle, aged 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on November 19, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on August 28, 1941, in Ontario, Oregon, she was the daughter of the late Addie Christine Crummett Grigg and Francis Nephi Grigg.
Billie was a woman of many talents and deep faith. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and a Master’s degree in Music from Brigham Young University. Her passion for music and the arts was evident in every aspect of her life. Billie also dedicated a significant part of her youth to serving a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Chile, a time that greatly influenced her life and beliefs.
While attending Brigham Young University, Billie met the love of her life, David Merrill Tuttle, and on January 29, 1969, they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple. Together, they built a life filled with music, faith, and dedication to their family.
Much of Billie’s life was dedicated to her love of teaching music, and especially piano, to hundreds of children over a span of 50 years. She took every opportunity to spread the joy that came from music literacy and appreciation through many different organizations and institutions, including Waterford Academy, the Suzuki Association of Utah, Orff Schulwerk, and through a litany of private students. Billie also regularly played fundraiser piano concerts to benefit the underprivileged throughout her life.
As a mother and friend, Billie will be remembered for her amazing hospitality, graciousness, and cooking – hosting many friends and family members for memorable dinners for every occasion. She loved Rocky Road ice cream (and of course Rocky Road candy bars), Dr. Pepper (when David wasn’t watching), and of course music of all forms, but especially Romantic era classical music, Beethoven, Mozart, and of course Elvis Presley.
She is survived by her children: A. Jeremy Tuttle, Cristina Hightower, Spencer Tuttle, and Benjamin Tuttle. Billie was also predeceased by her children, Cecily Ann Tuttle and Elizabeth Jo Tuttle, and her husband David Merrill Tuttle.
In addition, she leaves behind her siblings, Janet Grigg, Laurel (Tom) Olsen, Karen (Norwin) Burbidge, Steven (Sharon) Grigg, David Grigg, and Jeri Grigg, and was predeceased by her sister Delma Saunders.
Billie’s legacy is one of enduring love, artistic expression, and commitment to her faith. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of music, design, family, friends and spirituality.
