Carl Larry King
1938 ~ 2023
With sadness and love, the family of Carl Larry King announces the passing of their father on December 11, 2023. He passed peacefully with family members at his side.
He was born to Carl Marcus and Virginia Bowen King on January 17, 1938, in Glendale, California. He and his five siblings grew up in Burbank, California. He was later called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Brazil mission. He attended Brigham Young University where he studied zoology and participated in the US Air Force ROTC. While at BYU he met and fell in love with Sharon Lee Brusco. They were sealed together in the Los Angeles temple in 1964. They were married for 19 years and became the parents of six boys. Soon after his marriage, Larry entered the US Air Force Pilot training program where he trained to fly jet and heavy transport aircraft, including the C-130 Hercules, which he proudly flew for three years.
Following his patriotic service, Larry spent his life in the service of God and family. He was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was committed to the work of the Lord by serving in many positions of service and leadership. He was dedicated to raising his six boys with love and taught by example. Over the course of nearly 40 years he owned and operated his own carpet cleaning business in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. His extraordinary work ethic was a hallmark that will never be forgotten. Larry also demonstrated a lifelong commitment to healthy living through outdoor activity such as scouting, camping and long-distance running, including completing the Los Angeles marathon 35 consecutive years.
In 1989, Larry married Joan Miller and they shared three years together. Life’s journey then took him again to Brazil where he lived and worked for several years. There he met Suzette Kawabata. They were married in 1996 in Newhall, California and spent 26 happy years together.
Larry is survived by his three brothers and their spouses, David (Joyce), Dennis (Patti) and Leon (Cecile) King, brother-in-law Jerry Mortenson, sister-in-law Prisca King, six children and their spouses, Stephen (Tricia), David, Spencer, Sterling (Mihaela), Roland (Ramie), Blaine (Megan), and his 20 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
