Kenneth Dehlin Holland
1931 ~ 2023
Kenneth Dehlin Holland, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on December 21, 2023 in Alpine, Utah. He was born on April 24, 1931, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to Lyle Holland and Lola Leavitt, both second generation settlers to the land northward.
Ken lived a full life, centered around his family and his church. He grew up in a time when many families worked together, often for long hours. His family owned and operated a grocery store in Cardston on Main Street that was open six days a week, making Sunday a true day of rest. The work ethic learned there carried him through his life.
While serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern California mission, he met the love of his life, Renae Hunter and they were later married on April 7, 1953 in the St. George Utah Temple. They settled in Cardston and helped his family expand their grocery business to other cities in Alberta. They later moved to Edmonton, Alberta and then in 1977 reversed the ancestral pioneer trek to a warmer climate in Lehi, Utah. In 1995, they moved into their new home in Alpine, Utah.
Ken liked to brag about his posterity of five children, twenty-three grandchildren, and fifty-one great-grandchildren. He participated in dozens of reunions and enjoyed cooking pancakes and hamburgers for anyone who dropped by. It was a sad day when at eighty-five years old, he decided he was too old to ride his ATV or go fishing.
Ken is survived by his wife, Renae and his children: Sharon Woolf (Phil), Stan Holland (JuLane), Kelly Holland, and Linda Macdonald (Alan), and his brother Ronald. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandra Sheffield; his grandson, Marty Woolf; and his siblings Blair Holland, Cavell Rollins (Lee), Faye Nelson (Ted), Helen Stringham (Murray), and Phillip Holland.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers, who made it possible for Ken and Renae to remain in their home after they could no longer care for themselves. And a big thank you to their neighbors and friends who ministered to them and brightened their days.
Funeral services for Ken will be held on December 29, 2023 at 12:00 pm in the Fort Canyon Chapel, located at 890 North Heritage Hills Drive, Alpine, Utah 84004. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation that morning from 10:30-11:30 am prior to services also at the Fort Canyon Chapel. Interment will follow services at the Alpine City Cemetery.
