Michael Thomas Baer
Michael Thomas Baer
1956 ~ 2024
Michael Thomas Baer, or “DJ Michael T” as he is affectionately known in many circles, passed away August 30, 2024, while snuggling his eternal sweetheart and surrounded by family.
Dad’s life began when he was born to Thomas Gerald Baer and Caryl Sue Goffeney on November 12, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana. He would be second in a lineup of five siblings.
As he got older, Dad left behind his shy boyhood and grew into his “larger than life” personality for which he would be recognized the rest of his life. He was known for his gift of public speaking, his ability to connect with others, his stellar taste in music and his love of His Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dad’s relationship with Christ encouraged him to share his testimony through a church mission first to Rome, Italy and then to Spokane, Washington. While serving in the nearby town of Ellensburg, he met the future love of his life, Lori Lynn Hansen, and the two were married a few years later on July 8, 1981, in the Seattle Washington Temple.
Dad loved traveling, something that his final job as a corporate trainer for Franklin Covey enabled him to do. He traveled from Utah to England. From Dubai to Australia and everywhere in between. Wherever he went he never met a stranger.
In October 2013, Dad suffered a major health event that changed the course of his “larger than life” life. Since then, Dad has led a quieter, simpler life being cared for by his angelic eternal companion, our mom, Lori. Life for these past 11 years has been full of sacred memories, while building Legos, watching British dramas side by side in recliners with Mom, and spending time with his children and grandkids.
Dad is survived by his foxy (Dad’s words) wife, Lori Baer, his children: Jamiin Baer Hales, Devin Baer (Brittni), Aubrey Smith (Cameron), and Kelsey Flores (Richard), his mother, Caryl Goffeney, his siblings: Kathy Crone (John), Denny Baer (Ilona), Mark Baer (Beth), and Aileen Baer. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Kyler Hales, Bridger Baer, Emmi Baer, Weston Baer, Charli Baer, Payton Smith, Bennett Smith, Baer Flores, Jack Flores, and Lily Flores. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Baer.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Matterhorn Chapel – 285 N. Matterhorn Drive, Alpine, UT 84004. If you would like to donate flowers please contact Warenski Funeral Home: 801.763.5000
