Our loving father, grandfather, brother, friend and teacher passed away on September 3, 2024, at home in Alpine, Utah, and was reunited with his eternal companion. He was born on December 31, 1934, in Roosevelt, Utah to Eva May Wimmer and Francis Xavier Bellon. He grew up on a farm and learned the value of work. He started milking cows and herding cattle at age five. He loved the Uinta Mountains and hunting and fishing.
He served as Sophomore Class President at Altera High School and graduated from Union High School in 1953. He attended Utah State University for one semester before volunteering for the draft in the Army. He served in Germany as a surveyor on an M65 280 mm cannon.
He met his wife, Phyllis McDaniel, in Salt Lake City, when he was on leave from the Army in 1955, and they were married on November 16, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed 61 years together before her death in 2018. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and taught 5th and 6th grade for 32 years. He had a positive influence on his students and taught them to love learning. He especially loved to teach math.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings in his earlier years.
He is survived by his four children, Laird Bellon, Charlyn (Neil) McAllister, Chad (Cheryl) Bellon, and Janece (Kenneth) Leany, 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great grandchildren, and his brother Drew (Carol) Bellon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his father and mother, daughter-in-law Margaret, grandson Jess Bellon, four sisters, Louise, Charlene, Carol and Shanna, and two brothers, Doral, and Arvin.
A graveside service will be held for the family on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Alpine City Cemetery.
