Don Smith Haskins passed away July 8, 2024 in Alpine, Utah, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born April 16, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. Don was the only child of Myrile Marie Smith and Ralph Donovan Haskins. He grew up in Denver and then moved to Alamosa, Colorado to attend school at Adam State College. He met Lynnda at the A&W Rootbeer stand where she was a server and they married soon after.
In 1965 he was hired by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. Don worked in Denver until being transferred to the Salt Lake City, Utah railyard in 1970. Where he worked until he retired after 38 years in 2003.
Trains were his passion, he knew and loved everything about them. Don was also an avid reader. You needed to plan extra time if you were going anywhere there was information to read about because he would read everything.
Don is preceded in death by his loving companion of 58 years, Lynnda, whom he was only able to wait ten months before joining her, his parents, and many extended family members. He is survived by his son Jeff (Charlotte), daughter Mindi (Wade), six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Don will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Fort Canyon Ward Chapel, located at 890 North Heritage Hills Drive, Alpine, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter.
