Eric Edwin Schomaker passed away on December 5, 2024, in Chandler, Arizona, at the age of 76. He was born in Oakland, California, to Julia Pinckney and Clarence Schomaker on January 27, 1948. He was the younger son of two children, having an older brother, Michael Schomaker.
Eric was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his brother, Michael (Andi) Schomaker, his wife, Sherry Schomaker, three children and three stepchildren – Christopher (Lesli) Schomaker, Lance (Ashlie) Schomaker, Carey (Ikenna) Schomaker-Odunze, John (Angelia) Turner, Lesa (Robert) Milsom, and Chad (Heather) Turner. Eric has left the legacy of 24 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Eric married Cheryl Ann Lockwood in 1972 and later married Sherry Lynn Olson in 1990. Eric and Sherry were sealed in the Manti Temple on September 14, 1991.
Eric excelled in athletics and received a football scholarship to The University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. After sustaining a knee injury, he continued his education at University of California, Berkely. He later obtained his Master of Engineering Degree from Brigham Young University. He retired from Job Industrial Services, Inc. Upon retirement, he became an Arizona snowbird. He was able to enjoy the warm Arizona winters for five years before his death.
While attending BYU, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eric held numerous church callings including Nursery, Primary, Sunday School, and Sunday School President. He particularly enjoyed his calling as a member of a bishopric at BYU. Eric and Sherry served a senior service mission at Mutual Dell Camp in American Fork Canyon where they developed close friendships with the other missionaries. He had the privilege of making an impact by bearing his testimony on a frequent basis to the young women who were attending girls’ camp.
Eric’s many friends, associates, and family will remember his sense of humor and kindness. He will be missed. We know he loved us, and we loved him.
Funeral services for Eric will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Alpine 11th Ward Chapel, located at 98 East Canyon Crest Road, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah, and also at an additional viewing on Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church.
