Afton Arlene Yocum
1936 ~ 2014

On April 18, 1936, a beautiful baby girl was born in Huntington Park, California to Afton and Benjamin Cluff. They named her after her mother, Afton Arlene, but she would always be called Arlene. She would be the oldest of their three children. She grew up with a great love of family and the gospel of Jesus Christ, being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was born with an enormous sense of responsibility that was greatly needed, as she acted as a mother hen to her sister and brother when her mom went to work during WWII. She made sure their lives were full and fun. Arlene loved life and wanted to experience it all. She was involved in clubs and parties and dances in high school, graduating from Huntington Park High School in 1954. While she was there, she met Michael McCoy, and they became sweethearts. They married in 1955 and had 3 daughters: Tracy, Kelly and Randy. Their lives were full of fire department get-together’s (Huntington Park City; Los Angeles County), beach parties, vacations, and church activities. These were busy years, but Arlene loved being a mom and all that came with it. As the years progressed, they moved in 1976 to Costa Mesa, California. Arlene worked for Money Management Services for many years there. Sadly, the couple divorced after 38 years of marriage. Arlene then found joy and happiness again as she re-acquainted herself with an old friend from her junior high school days, Robert Yocum. They were married and immediately moved to Columbus, Indiana where they built a beautiful home close to Arlene’s daughters.

Arlene was a loving, kind and considerate person. She had a gift that made anyone who was with her feel very special. She was greatly loved by her children and grandchildren, and each one felt they were her favorite. She was a great example to all who knew her in her devotion to God and family, and how to make life fun and exciting.

Arlene passed away on December 7, 2014, at home with her family close to her side.

Afton Arlene Cluff McCoy Yocum was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Yocum (2001); her former husband Michael Edward McCoy (2009); her daughter Randy Eileen Pesce (2008); a "son" Ty Vongswad (1981); and her parents Afton Pilkington Cluff Merrill and Benjamin Cluff.
