Clara Kiefer York
1927 ~ 2017

Clara Kiefer York passed to the next life on 23 September 2017 at the American Fork Hospital in American Fork, Utah after complications from a fall. She was 90 years old at the time of her death.

Clara was born 31 July 1927 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Fred William Kiefer and Ida Dolder Kiefer. After graduating from Emanuel School of Nursing, Clara worked as a civilian nurse (delivering babies) and then as an Air Force nurse. While in the Air Force she met her future husband. On 3 January 1952 she married Theodore Robert York at Westover Air Base, Massachusetts. Shortly after they were married it was off to Lajes Air Base in the Azores Islands. Their first 2 children, Teddy and Sharon, were born there before they returned to the States. Because of Ted’s military career they found themselves in Massachusetts, Idaho, California, Alabama, Guam, Nebraska, and Virginia before he retired. Scotty was born in Idaho and Krista in Nebraska. Mom and dad continued to move, going to San Diego and back to Virginia before finally settling in Sandy, Utah where she and her husband were sealed in the Jordan River Temple.

While growing up, Clara really enjoyed horse riding on the family ranch. She and a friend joined the High School Band just so they could be at all the sports events with the guys. Later in life, Clara enjoyed sewing, knitting, making cookies and other treats for the grandchildren, Family Dinners, reading, and watching Romantic Comedies. She was “famous” for her pumpkin pies and rolls at Thanksgiving and Galumpkis at anytime.

Clara was predeceased by her husband Theodore and her older brother Fred William Kiefer. She is survived by her 4 children, 14 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren – with 2 more expected before the end of the year.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, 5 October 2017, at the Hidden Valley LDS Chapel, 1450 Raddon Drive, Sandy, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
