Russell Charles Black

1932 – 2022

Russell Charles Black was born Feb 4, 1932, in Fillmore, Utah to Nina Warner Black and Mark Chase Black. Russell passed away Nov 7, 2022, in Lindon, Utah. He spent his childhood in Kanosh, Utah riding horses and working on the family farm. After graduating from Millard High School, he attended BAC in Cedar where he met the love of his life and his eternal companion Eyvonne Porter. They were married March 22, 1953 and sealed for time and all eternity later in the Manti Temple.

Russell served in the US Army, an experience he and Eyvonne thoroughly enjoyed, before returning to Utah and Graduating from Utah State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Arts from BYU.

Russell was a teacher all his life teaching first at Cyprus High School in Magna Utah and then for the remainder of his career at UVU where he taught Drafting and Design, Math, Technical Writing, and Surveying. He served as UVU Athletic Director for 2 years and coached the UVU Rodeo Team for most of his tenure at the school.

In 1962 Russell and Eyvonne moved to Highland, Utah where they raised their family making Highland their home.

Russell served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various leadership positions including Elders Quorum President, Bishop, Counselor in the Stake Pres, and Counselor in a BYU Bishopric. He always said the highlight of his life was the 3-year Church Education Mission he served with Eyvonne in the Dominican Republic.

Russell and Eyvonne loved to travel and spent many years as Snowbirds in Arizona with great friends. Russell had a special place in his heart for Mexico and traveled there often.

Eyvonne passed away in 2012 and Russell later married Edith Clapp.

Russell was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Eyvonne; his brother, Lorin Black; and his Great Grandson, Spencer Martin.

He will be greatly missed by his 3 sisters, his 6 children and their spouses, 25 Grandchildren, 38 Great-grandchildren, his many friends, and his wife, Edith Black.

Funeral Services for Russell will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Hillcrest 2nd Ward Chapel, located at 1120 North 150 West, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends may call on Monday evening from 6:00-7:30 pm at Warenski Funeral Home 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and at an additional viewing on Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
