After retirement, Lou and Lois served two missions for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nigeria Africa in 1995 and Cambodia in 2000. He was the counselor for the Mission President VandeMerwe in Nigeria and together they traveled the mission. In Cambodia he taught beginning computer and ran the Church trade-school while Lois taught sewing skills.

He and his wife moved to American Fork in the summer of 2001 where he continued to serve faithfully in whatever church assignment he was called to.
